Energy A Top Issue In 2007 Legislature
OSPIRG’s proposed Renewable Energy Standard, which would require Oregon utilities to generate 25 percent of their electricity from renewable sources such as wind and solar, has emerged as one of the top environmental issues in the new legislative session.
Gov. Ted Kulongoski has championed the 25 percent standard for
nearly a year and made it a top priority in his re-election campaign.
Last year, he convened the Renewable Energy Working Group, which included OSPIRG’s Jeremiah Baumann, to advise him on drafting the legislation, introduced in January.
Progress On Mt. Hood Wilderness
A bipartisan bill to provide new wilderness protections for areas on
and around Mt. Hood came very close to becoming law in the final
months of the Congressional session that ended in December. |
